Once again my feet have landed in California. Having lived here on and off for what seems half my life, Cali is my go to place. This trip is a few days on the beach with my husband at rustic beach cottage #24 in Crystal Cove State Park. This place is everything we need – why did we rent a car?
November is my favorite month to be in California, the weather has never let me down in November and once again it is a perfect 70 degrees on the water with bright blue skies. We have checked in to our “beach shack”, now its time for the 3 mile walk on the beach, toes in sand. Perfect exfoliation!
With all the cabins rented this long weekend, it still feels like we have our own secluded spot on the beach and in the park, there is so much room to roam. The beach, the hiking trails above the beach and the hiking trails in the back country of the park leaves much solitude to reconnect with nature. I can say that after a hike, the BeachComber restaurant and bar that sits on the beach is the perfect place for a Bloody Mary!
Our afternoon is spent on our porch reading, listening to the waves and watching the seals play in the ocean.
Crystal Cove Conservancy works with the California State Park system to preserve the beach cottages from the 1930’s.
Twenty Nine of the original forty six cottages have been restored which have original furnishings and fixtures donated by former cottage owners. I love that people recognize the importance to keep California’s historic beach culture alive!
Days, 2 and 3 are spent with a morning walk on the beach, followed by a hike in the back country, an afternoon nap and campfire in the evening on the beach. The park workers set up our umbrella’s and beach chairs and light our campfire. This truly is my perfect vacation – beach – history – sunshine – rest and relaxation. Tomorrow I will be sad to go – maybe one more Bloody Mary in the morning before we leave to catch our flight home!
